Job description

About PEM Sheetmetal Ltd

PEM Sheetmetal Ltd is a well-established precision sheet-metal fabrication company that serves the medical, scientific, rail, and transport industries.

MIG Welder Role

We are seeking MIG welders to join our production floor. The majority of work involves mild steel fabrications and panel work for the rail sector, typically working with steel thicknesses ranging from 2 to 15 mm.

  • Perform MIG welding on mild steel fabrications and panels between 2 to 15 mm thick.
  • Work according to engineering drawings and fabrication tolerances.
  • Assemble fabricated components, jigs, and sub-assemblies.
  • Inspect your own welds to ensure compliance with rail industry quality standards.

Skills and Experience for MIG Welders

  • Skilled welders: time-served or equivalent experience with MIG welding mild steel of varying thicknesses, producing strong, consistent welds by interpreting drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Semi-skilled welders: fundamental MIG welding skills supported by some workshop experience; eager to develop with training and mentorship.
  • Able or willing to learn to read engineering drawings (mandatory for skilled welders).
  • Attention to detail is critical to ensure reliable, sound welds compliant with rail-sector quality requirements.

TIG Welder Role

We also require TIG welders to work mainly with thin-gauge stainless steel (1–3 mm) in fabrication and panel work focused on the medical industry, where weld quality and finish are paramount.

  • Perform TIG welding on thin stainless steel fabrications and panels ranging from 1 to 3 mm thick.
  • Adhere to engineering drawings and fabrication tolerances.
  • Assemble and finish fabricated components.
  • Self-inspect to meet the stringent quality standards of medical-sector products.

Skills and Experience for TIG Welders

  • Skilled welders: time-served or equivalent experience TIG welding thin-gauge stainless steel with a high cosmetic and dimensional standard, working independently from drawings.
  • Semi-skilled welders: sound TIG welding basics complemented by some workshop exposure, enthusiastic to enhance thin stainless steel skills; training and support provided.
  • Ability or willingness to read engineering drawings (required for skilled welders).
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure clean, consistent welds required in medical applications.

Working Hours, Compensation & Benefits

  • Work schedule: 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday from 07:00 to 15:30.
  • Overtime is compensated at 1.5 times the base hourly rate for any hours beyond 40 per week.
  • Pay varies hourly based on skill level and experience.
  • Annual leave: 28 days including bank holidays.
