Job description

Role overview

A publicly listed manufacturing business is looking for a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions to join its corporate strategy and business development function. This is a prominent position with direct exposure to senior leadership and close collaboration with finance, operations, commercial teams, legal counsel, and outside advisors to advance strategic growth plans.

The role suits someone with experience in investment banking, corporate development, transaction advisory, or private equity who is comfortable steering complicated deals from early-stage evaluation through completion and integration planning.

Role highlights

  • Base pay is paired with a bonus and long-term incentive opportunity.
  • The working model is 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, with some flexibility as needed.
  • There is frequent interaction with executive leadership and preparation for board-level presentations.
  • The company has an active acquisition agenda and a solid pipeline of growth initiatives.
  • The position offers a chance to shape strategic direction and long-term value creation.
  • You will gain broad exposure to valuation, due diligence, integration, and overall business strategy.
  • The environment is that of a public company, but without the heavy layers often found in very large multinational firms.

Key responsibilities

Lead the full lifecycle of M&A activity, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic investments. Keep timelines, workstreams, deliverables, and stakeholder alignment on track throughout each transaction. Organize and coordinate due diligence across commercial, operational, financial, legal, tax, HR, IT, and environmental workstreams. Run executive steering committee sessions and draft leadership updates covering progress, risks, and decision points. Work alongside legal partners and external advisors on negotiations, documentation, regulatory clearances, and closing tasks. Ensure all governance, records, and approvals meet internal controls and corporate standards.

Create and maintain advanced financial models to assess acquisition and divestiture opportunities. Build business cases that factor in operating assumptions, synergies, capital needs, and cash flow forecasts. Carry out valuation work using DCF, precedent transactions, trading comparables, and other relevant methods. Assess transaction structures and their effects on returns, leverage, accretion/dilution, and broader deal economics. Use valuation and scenario analysis to support negotiation strategy. Prepare executive and board-ready materials that explain transaction rationale, valuation findings, risks, and expected returns.

Drive integration planning and Day 1 readiness activities. Develop post-close integration plans and value-capture roadmaps. Set up integration governance, reporting rhythms, and performance metrics. Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver synergy initiatives and monitor progress against targets. Support change management and stakeholder communication during integration efforts.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline is required. An MBA, CPA, CFA, or another advanced professional credential is preferred. Candidates should bring at least 7 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, transaction advisory, or a similar area. Prior success leading complex M&A deals from initial assessment through closing is essential. Strong financial modeling, valuation, and transaction execution skills are expected. Experience presenting to executive leaders and other senior stakeholders is also needed. Background in post-merger integration, synergy tracking, or separation planning is considered a strong advantage.

Compensation and work setup

The role is offered as a full-time position and follows a hybrid schedule based in Wayne, PA.
