Role Overview

The Medical Writer serves as the primary medical content lead for assigned accounts and manages the day-to-day creation of medical materials. This role is accountable for producing high-quality, scientifically sound content that aligns with brand strategy and business goals, while meeting deadlines and following internal workflows. The position works under the guidance of a manager or senior team member.

Core Duties

Content Development

The writer is expected to carry out research efficiently using appropriate sources, then turn that information into accurate, strategically aligned, polished content. Drafting is expected to begin from the earliest stages and continue through final delivery with manager input as needed. All materials must be annotated correctly according to the brand style guide and AMA rules, and the writer is responsible for the accuracy of their work.

Planning

This person should understand the product, scientific, therapeutic, and competitive landscape well enough to make proactive recommendations to the internal team on upcoming work. They must also understand and follow BGB processes, deadlines, and agreed procedures within cross-functional projects.

Client Interaction

The role includes active participation in client discussions as part of a team. Over time, the writer should become comfortable presenting and discussing content during client calls, build trust through subject matter knowledge, and may occasionally serve as the client-facing medical lead with managerial support. The person also helps ensure that teleconferences and in-person meetings feel organized, professional, and smooth for the client. Local travel within the tri-state area may be required.

Agency Collaboration

The Medical Writer should understand how the medical function operates within the agency and help establish clear expectations and working norms across the team. Sharing best practices and strategic ideas is important, as is modeling efficient work habits, strong team productivity, and high scientific quality across all deliverables.

Preferred Background

BGBx is seeking thoughtful, motivated, and detail-oriented candidates with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ideal applicants are comfortable working on both analytical scientific assignments and more creative communications work. Entry-level candidates should hold an MD, PharmD, PhD, or MS in a relevant scientific field. The role also welcomes medical writers with at least one year of experience in medical communications or a related industry.

Clients and Therapeutic Areas

The organization supports more than 20 clients across over 48 brands, ranging from major multinational pharmaceutical companies, including six of the top ten biopharmaceutical companies, to smaller biotech firms and single-product disease-focused companies. Work may involve highly complex and rapidly changing disease areas such as cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, and rheumatology.

Team and Culture

The Medical and Scientific Affairs department includes more than 70 full-time professionals, such as MDs, PhDs, PharmDs, and engineers. The team draws from a wide range of respected academic institutions. Teaching and development are central to the culture, with pharmacy school rotation programs, lunch-and-learn sessions, medical buddy systems, and guest speakers used to support ongoing learning.

Compensation

The posted base salary range is USD 70,000 to USD 95,000 annually for the New York City metropolitan area. The role can be performed remotely anywhere in the United States. Compensation may be adjusted outside the New York City area based on the employee’s primary work location, market conditions, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
