Role overview
Our hiring partner is seeking a Medical Writer in Scientific Communications for a Canada-based remote position. The role is centered on turning complex scientific and medical information into clear, accurate, and audience-friendly communication materials that support progress in healthcare.
This is a collaborative position with regular interaction across scientific specialists, client-facing teams, healthcare professionals, and external experts. The work spans multiple therapeutic areas and offers strong exposure to medical communications strategy, content development, and editorial execution.
The role is focused on producing reliable, compliant, and engaging materials that help communicate clinical findings, scientific evidence, and healthcare advancements to different audiences worldwide.
Key accountabilities
- Create a variety of medical communication assets such as abstracts, scientific posters, manuscripts, slide decks, presentations, and other healthcare-related documents.
- Write content that is scientifically sound, clearly structured, grammatically correct, and aligned with client expectations.
- Review and interpret scientific papers, clinical datasets, therapeutic-area information, competitive landscape details, and emerging healthcare trends.
- Work closely with scientific experts, client services teams, healthcare stakeholders, and outside specialists to move projects forward successfully.
- Incorporate review comments while preserving scientific accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Take ownership of assigned workstreams and deliver projects on time while meeting quality expectations.
- Keep stakeholders informed about progress, timelines, requirements, and any delivery risks that may arise.
- Track time spent on projects, support budget monitoring, and flag any issues that could affect delivery plans.
- Help coordinate information flow between editorial teams and client-facing teams to ensure smooth execution.
- Stay current on pharmaceutical industry practices, self-regulatory guidelines, client processes, and medical communications best practices.
Requirements
- A background in life sciences is required, preferably supported by a master’s degree or PhD in a scientific field.
- Prior experience in medical writing, scientific communications, healthcare communications, or a closely related area is preferred, though strong interest in the field is also relevant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication ability, with the skill to explain complex scientific ideas in a clear way.
- Working knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, clinical research workflows, and healthcare communication practices.
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard for scientific accuracy and editorial quality.
- Solid planning and organizational abilities, including managing several priorities, deadlines, and projects at once.
- Comfort working independently while also contributing effectively to cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to learn about new therapeutic areas, disease states, and scientific topics.
- Proactive communication style when sharing progress updates, ideas, feedback, and recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe.
