Role Overview
The Medical Writer role in Germany contributes to the delivery of high-quality medical content across multiple therapy areas. The position suits someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, scientifically minded, interested in AI, and ready to grow further in medical writing. The role also involves adapting global English content and creating original content in German.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with assigned therapeutic areas such as oncology, rare diseases, and CRM, and apply scientific understanding to a variety of projects.
- Interpret and analyse scientific information accurately to support project delivery.
- Build knowledge of the medical affairs and commercial environment in which pharmaceutical clients operate.
- Review published literature and competitor intelligence to deepen brand and market understanding, then share relevant insights with the team.
- Take part in meetings and strategic conversations with clients, authors, and advisors.
- Write fluently in both German and English, including adapting English-language material and producing original German content.
- Use AI tools confidently and efficiently to improve accuracy, productivity, and workflow management.
- Own day-to-day delivery of scientific content under limited supervision and ensure communication goals are met.
- Adjust writing style for different audiences, including physicians, nurses, and patients.
- Develop more complex or commercially oriented materials such as story flows, strategic frameworks, competitor intelligence documents, and advisory board reports.
- Ensure content is correctly referenced and accompanied by a complete reference pack.
- Tag work properly in Veeva Vault Project Management systems.
- Follow the FSA code of conduct and apply relevant industry best-practice and compliance guidance, with support from senior team members where needed.
- Attend events on-site when required and help develop and finalise content in collaboration with clients and faculty.
- Handle straightforward client communication for content development and escalate more complex issues appropriately.
- Work to project schedules and briefs, keep the account team updated on timelines, and communicate progress clearly.
- Track hours, identify the effects of scope changes, and stay within budget or explain deviations promptly.
Qualifications and Skills
- A strong scientific background with a degree in a scientific or medical discipline; a postgraduate degree is preferred.
- High academic achievement.
- Deep interest in healthcare, science, medicine, and the pharmaceutical industry, along with curiosity about AI technologies.
- Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and careful attention to detail.
- Previous experience as a junior medical writer, either in an agency or within a pharmaceutical organisation.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools, especially PowerPoint, and the ability to turn complex science into clear, visually engaging content.
