About the Role
Te Whare Hauora | Health Centre, situated in Christchurch, New Zealand, is seeking a dedicated Medical Receptionist / Administrator to join their team. This permanent part-time role (0.96 FTE) involves working 36 hours per week onsite, contributing to a dynamic health service supporting students, staff, and visitors at the University of Canterbury.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact providing professional reception and administrative support to ensure seamless daily operations of a busy medical practice.
- Coordinate patient appointments and manage enquiries efficiently.
- Maintain precise and confidential medical records compliant with privacy regulations.
- Handle financial processes including claims, invoicing, and account reconciliations.
- Support the Practice Manager with various operational and administrative tasks.
- Act as a primary user and troubleshooter for clinical information systems to maintain high-quality service delivery.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in medical reception or healthcare administration, demonstrating a balance between attentive customer service and meticulous organizational skills in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
Required Experience and Skills
- Experience working in a healthcare or general practice reception/administration setting.
- Familiarity with patient management software, particularly Medtech, is highly valuable.
- Competence in managing financial transactions, claims processing, and account reconciliation in a busy office.
- Thorough understanding of the Health Information Privacy Code and ability to safeguard patient confidentiality.
- Proven capability to handle large volumes of enquiries and appointment scheduling while maintaining excellent customer service.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and general business software, with an aptitude for quickly mastering new technologies and acting as a systems champion.

Working Environment
