Medical Biller - Patient Accounts

Position Overview

This role is focused on accurately filing insurance claims and managing timely follow-up activities while applying a strong understanding of billing procedures and industry expectations. The schedule is full time, day shift.

Role Requirements

The preferred background includes hospital billing experience. A high school diploma is required, and no license or certificate is needed for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Submit claims and track follow-ups for Commercial, Champ-VA/Veterans, Workers’ Compensation, motor vehicle accident, funds/Black Lung, and Medicare secondary accounts.
• Handle liability claims by issuing lien letters unless the patient already has health insurance.
• Learn and use electronic claims systems, insurance portals, and insurance contract details.
• Monitor and act on Insurance and Medicare secondary remittances.
• Contact insurers, attorneys, and motor vehicle accident insurance providers to check claim status.
• Work monthly ATB aging summary reports to help lower accounts receivable balances.
• Respond to patient questions related to insurance, motor vehicle accident, and Medicare secondary claims.
• Take the right action on correspondence received from insurance companies, Workers’ Compensation, and motor vehicle accident carriers.
• Keep up with work queue follow-ups.
• Build familiarity with other functions within the department.
• Complete additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
