Overview
Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center seeks a dedicated and organized Medical Assistant to strengthen our outpatient clinic team. This full-time role involves direct patient care and supporting healthcare providers in a closely-knit, rural healthcare environment. The position offers a competitive hourly wage and a sign-on bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure nursing and medical assistant duties comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
- Communicate effectively to enhance patient understanding and health literacy.
- Coordinate patient access to medical specialists and care team supports.
- Act as the main information resource for patients, families, care teams, payers, and community support related to care plans.
- Monitor and track test results and medication management.
- Participate actively in all required training sessions.
- Assist with nursing triage and clinic workflow.
- Manage medication prior authorizations.
- Perform clinical duties including vital signs, CLIA waived testing, venipunctures, therapeutic injections, and immunizations.
- Maintain exam room supplies and monitor medication expirations and stock levels.
- Prepare patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring smooth patient flow and anticipating provider needs.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives as directed by clinic management.
- Carry out additional responsibilities necessary to meet Medical Assistant role expectations.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of direct patient care experience strongly preferred, ideally in Family Practice settings.
- Current Medical Assistant certification or registration highly preferred.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including email and office equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and external agencies.
- Willingness to obtain annual flu vaccination and other job-specific immunizations; tuberculosis screening required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.

Compensation
Hourly wages range from $18.58 to $23.70 depending on experience and qualifications, with an additional $1.50 hourly pay for candidates holding Medical Assistant registration or certification. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is offered.
Additional Information
This role demands the ability to handle frequent interruptions and strict deadlines within clinic operations. The position will remain open for a minimum of five days or until a suitable candidate is found.
