Role Overview
The Media Relations Manager will own the organization’s media engagement approach, nurture relationships with journalists and news outlets, and help shape public-facing communication. This person will be responsible for securing coverage, guiding messaging, and ensuring the organization is represented accurately across media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct media relations efforts and provide guidance to communications team members.
- Create and roll out media strategies that support business and organizational objectives.
- Develop long-term working relationships with journalists, editors, and media partners.
- Write and send press releases, official statements, and announcement materials.
- Arrange interviews, press sessions, and public-facing events with the media.
- Observe media mentions, public sentiment, and brand reputation across channels.
- Handle incoming media questions quickly, clearly, and professionally.
- Partner with PR, marketing, and leadership teams to keep messaging aligned.
- Assist with crisis communication planning and execution when needed.
- Measure media activity results and share performance updates with leadership.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a similar discipline is preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in media relations, public relations, corporate communications, or a comparable field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory, lead, or managerial capacity is preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities.
- Demonstrated success in managing media contacts and earning press coverage.
- Ability to craft clear, persuasive, and accurate messaging, especially under pressure.
- Strong planning, negotiation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Background in running media campaigns and communication strategies.
- Comfort with sensitive information and demanding situations.
- Capable of working independently in a remote setting.
