The pilot-scale facility is located in Mesa, Arizona, with progressing plans for commercial deployment in North America. Allied Graphite also partners with Graphcoa in Brazil to secure a reliable supply of natural flake graphite concentrate for future commercial needs.

Role Overview

The Mechanical Systems Engineer will join Allied Graphite's owner's engineering team, leading technical oversight and reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by external service providers. The role concentrates on process piping systems including chemical processing, slurry transport, gas systems, and utility infrastructure across design, procurement, construction, and commissioning stages.

Key Duties

  • Act as the subject matter expert for process piping systems during all project phases: study, FEED, design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Evaluate contractor deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, piping specifications, layouts, 3D models, and isometric drawings.
  • Guarantee piping system designs promote operability, maintenance ease, safety, and constructability.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including process, mechanical, electrical, controls, and operations.
  • Engage in HAZOP sessions, constructability and model reviews.
  • Assist in developing internal standards and specifications for piping.
  • Support procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Between 6 and 10+ years of relevant industrial engineering experience.
  • Expertise with process piping systems within industrial process plants.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 standards.
  • Experience in reviewing contractor engineering work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Skills

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Experience working with slurry or corrosive service piping systems.
  • Prior work experience in owner teams or EPC/EPCM projects.

Additional Information

This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is initially based in Mesa, AZ. Permanent relocation to the future commercial plant site in the U.S. will be necessary during construction and long-term operations. Approximately 25% travel is expected for engineering reviews, vendor visits, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and coordination efforts.
