Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter to join the engineering team at Tarmac's Tendley Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Cockermouth, Cumbria. The role involves maintaining heavy plant machinery including conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens, pumps, and gearboxes, with a focus on high-quality maintenance to ensure reliability and safe operation. This role offers a dynamic and fast-paced work environment where each day presents new challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and execute both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and implement effective repairs.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and varied mechanical fitting tasks.
• Contribute to plant improvement projects and initiatives to enhance reliability.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Proven mechanical maintenance experience in quarrying, manufacturing, heavy industry, mining, aggregates or related sectors.
• Hands-on expertise with conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens, motors, pumps, gearboxes, or equivalent plant equipment.
• Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience performing both breakdown and preventative maintenance operations.
• Competent IT skills with confidence in using maintenance management software.
• Completed Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
• ONC or HNC qualifications are a plus but not mandatory.
• Committed to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of health and safety.
