Role overview
Hitachi Energy is hiring a Mechanical/Electrical Cleats and Leads Design Engineer for its Business Unit Transformers. This position is based in the Global Engineering Center in Vadodara, India and focuses on designing internal transformer arrangements that satisfy customer needs, industry expectations, and engineering best practices. The role sits within a global engineering environment and contributes to the development of transformer products and systems with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, and sustainability.
What you will do
- Work as part of an international design and engineering group focused on power transformers up to 345 kV across multiple countries.
- Carry out internal transformer design work, including cleats and leads, while following factory limits, internal guidelines, checklists, and IEEE, IEC, and IS requirements.
- Apply knowledge of transformer mechanics, thermal behavior, dielectric principles, short-circuit performance, and sound performance to design tasks.
- Coordinate design-related work with factories and teams located around the world.
- Take part in internal reviews of design concepts and proposed solutions.
- Work collaboratively with technical teams across different regions and time zones.
- Follow Hitachi Energy’s expectations around safety, integrity, and accountability in day-to-day work.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant internal procedures, external regulations, and engineering guidelines.
What we are looking for
- A B.E. or B.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- 4 to 12 years of experience in internal transformer design, specifically cleats and leads for oil-filled power transformer manufacturing; candidates with greater experience may also be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of CAD tools and 3D modelling software; Creo will be an added advantage.
- Good understanding of transformer design, mechanical calculations, dielectric concepts, clearance and creepage, basic layout planning, and cleats/lead arrangement.
- Sound knowledge of IS, IEC, IEEE, and Canadian standards.
- Experience in winding design or tank and external design will be beneficial.
- Exposure to simulation tools or software development will be an advantage.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and related tools.
- Ability to collaborate with global technical teams and build effective working relationships.
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
