Role Overview

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the continued growth of our business. This role involves assisting Senior Design Engineers in creating detailed manufacturing drawings and models, supporting the toolmaking team on active projects, and acting as a primary contact for customers and suppliers. Comprehensive training and mentoring will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain a thorough understanding of our products, customers, and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and implement improvements to increase production efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure adherence to company and industry quality standards.
  • Process customer orders using the ERP system and prepare manufacturing-ready drawings and files.
  • Oversee multiple projects from design stage through timely delivery.
  • Manage procurement of raw materials and consumables.
  • Provide updates on project progress and delivery timelines to customers.
  • Offer support to colleagues when necessary.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modelling software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining processes including milling, turning, wire EDM, sinker EDM, and grinding.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM technologies.
  • Strong communication abilities and experience collaborating within teams and directly with customers.
  • Competence with various computer operating systems and software applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; alternatively, a Senior Trades Qualification in Toolmaking will be considered.
  • Between 1 and 4 years of experience in precision manufacturing environments, including internships or placements.
  • Proven capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Experience or familiarity with the medical device industry is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection moulding processes is preferred.
