Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer specialized in plastic injection moulds, particularly for caps and closures. This role involves conceptualizing and developing precise injection and compression mould tooling adhering to high-cavitation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop precision injection and compression moulds for plastic caps and closures.
- Create detailed 2D technical drawings and 3D models using software such as UG NX (preferred), SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
- Engineer high-cavity moulds with configurations of 16, 32, 48, 64 cavities or greater.
- Develop and optimize components like hot runner systems, cooling layouts, ejection mechanisms, and related mould hardware.
- Enhance mould design for better productivity, reduced cycle times, and increased tool longevity.
- Collaborate closely with Tool Room, CNC, Production, and Quality teams through the manufacture and testing phases.
- Evaluate trial reports and incorporate necessary design refinements.
- Prepare bill of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation.
Candidate Requirements
- At least five years of practical experience in plastic injection mould design.
- Specific expertise in designing moulds for caps and closures is essential.
- Strong understanding of high-cavitation mould manufacturing, hot runner and cooling systems, material selection, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and machining techniques.
- Proficient user of CAD software such as UG NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
- Excellent problem-solving aptitude coupled with effective communication skills.
Educational Qualification
A Diploma, BE, or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Engineering, Plastic Engineering, or relevant disciplines is required.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with mould flow analysis and techniques for reducing cycle times.
- Capability to guide and mentor junior designers within the team.
