Job description

Role Overview

ABRAMS, a long-established publisher known for illustrated books since 1949, is hiring a Marketing Assistant to join its Digital & Social Media team. The role supports marketing efforts across adult and children’s publishing and is geared toward someone who is creative, highly organized, detail-focused, and genuinely interested in digital marketing.

This position offers the chance to contribute to social media strategy, assist with title-specific campaigns, support administrative processes, and help strengthen audience engagement across major social platforms. The work is fast-moving and collaborative, with exposure to performance-driven marketing, author promotion, and day-to-day team operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide creative and administrative support for digital and social media campaigns, especially paid and organic social efforts.
  • Help shape organic social content, including writing copy and creating content for ABRAMS book-related social accounts across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Support community management and stay current on changes, conversations, and trends in the social media landscape.
  • Track campaign performance and analytics, assess return on investment for key initiatives, and prepare a monthly report on content and engagement.
  • Support authors and stakeholders with practical guidance on social media best practices and platform use.
  • Maintain budget tracking, invoice records, AMEX coding, and internal deadline updates.
  • Handle routine departmental work such as updating marketing plans, maintaining seasonal tracking documents, and processing book orders and mailings.
  • Attend trade and consumer events when required, with only limited travel involved.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant is enthusiastic about books and digital engagement, communicates clearly, and brings strong organizational skills to a deadline-driven environment. They should be comfortable managing several priorities at once, able to adapt quickly when priorities shift, and confident working both independently and as part of a team.

ABRAMS is looking for someone who can build positive working relationships across internal teams and external partners, and who already has a strong understanding of social platforms and online communities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong interest in reading and in connecting audiences with books.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid project management ability with strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and adjust priorities when needed.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.
  • Self-directed, proactive, creative, and collaborative in approach.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with colleagues and external contacts at different levels.
  • Good working knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok, along with awareness of current social media trends and online communities.
  • Proficiency with Mac OS and Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, email marketing tools such as Mailchimp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva.
  • Prior internship experience in digital marketing, ideally in publishing.

Work Location and Schedule

This role is based in New York, NY and follows a hybrid schedule, with three in-office days per week.

Compensation

The base salary for this position is $40,000 to $45,000 per year. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Benefits and Perks

  • Generous paid holidays and Summer Fridays.
  • Company-paid office closure from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day.
  • Comprehensive health coverage, including short-term and long-term disability.
  • Retirement savings plan (401(k)) and life insurance.
  • Vacation, personal, and sick leave.
