Role Overview
RJC Group is working with a major global organisation active in freight markets, commodities, and risk management. As its market activity grows, the company is seeking a seasoned Freight Market Risk Analyst to strengthen a high-performing risk function based in Singapore or London.
The role offers the chance to monitor freight exposure, deliver independent risk oversight, and work closely with commercial and trading stakeholders in an international, fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Track and assess freight-related exposures across both physical and paper portfolios.
- Prepare daily risk outputs covering profit and loss, Value at Risk (VaR), stress tests, scenario reviews, and position updates.
- Review freight valuations and help ensure that risk data and pricing models remain accurate and reliable.
- Question trading positions and confirm that they stay within approved risk thresholds and governance standards.
- Evaluate market changes across freight derivatives, Forward Freight Agreements (FFAs), and the wider shipping market.
- Collaborate with traders, chartering, operations, finance, and senior leaders to share timely risk and market insights.
- Assist in improving risk methods, reporting solutions, and supporting systems.
- Contribute to regulatory reporting, model checks, and internal control work when needed.
Requirements
- Background in Freight Market Risk, Market Risk, or Risk Analytics gained in shipping, commodities, energy trading, or financial markets.
- Solid understanding of freight markets, including physical shipping exposure and freight derivatives such as FFAs.
- Hands-on experience with risk measures such as VaR, stress testing, sensitivity analysis, and P&L attribution.
- Working knowledge of freight pricing, vessel economics, and global shipping trends.
- Strong analytical ability, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with risk management platforms.
- Exposure to Python, SQL, Power BI, or similar data tools is a plus.
- Confident communicator who can work effectively with both commercial and risk teams.
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Shipping, or another quantitative subject.
What’s on Offer
- The chance to join a well-known global business with meaningful exposure to freight and commodity markets.
- A high-impact position partnering with experienced traders and commercial teams.
- A competitive compensation package including salary, bonus, and broad benefits.
- Flexible base in Singapore or London, within a collaborative international setting.
- Strong opportunities for career growth in an expanding global organisation.
Additional Information
This role is available in Singapore or London and is described as hybrid. The company is looking for an experienced freight market risk professional who can contribute immediately and discuss the opportunity confidentially if interested.
