Job description

About NZTE

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is the country’s international business development agency. It operates as a practical, collaborative and commercially driven organisation, working through a global network to help New Zealand businesses grow larger, improve faster and succeed internationally for the benefit of New Zealand.

Role overview

Based in Auckland, this opportunity is for a Market Relationship Partner - Pacific, a position that focuses on building NZTE’s reach and effectiveness across Pacific markets. The role is designed to develop trusted relationships, surface market opportunities, and ensure customers and internal teams are connected to the right knowledge, support and networks.

Reporting to the Market Manager – Australia Pacific, you will work across NZTE, NZ Inc. partners and regional networks. You will link Pacific market activity with NZTE’s head office in New Zealand and the in-market Australia-Pacific team, while playing an important role in the Pacific Working Group. The role also supports regional planning, engagement with government and business stakeholders, and the creation of clear, practical messaging for Pacific markets.

You will represent NZTE at business forums, council meetings and market events that support commercial opportunities for kiwi exporters. This is a visible, influential position suited to someone who can work independently, handle senior-level interactions, and enjoy bringing people, ideas and opportunities together.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with government bodies, NZ Inc. partners, business councils and important regional stakeholders.
  • Spot opportunities in the market and connect customers with internal teams to improve outcomes and value.
  • Support the regional activity plan by linking opportunities in the market to customer capability and providing advice that supports decision-making across the Pacific.
  • Create and distribute timely market intelligence, updates and reporting, using clear communication and targeted content to support engagement and decision-making across the region.
  • Contribute to market engagement activities such as delegations, forums and strategic initiatives in the Pacific.
  • Serve as a key link between Pacific-focused colleagues, Customer Managers in New Zealand and external stakeholders, helping prioritise information and represent the region consistently.
  • Work with internal teams to inform and educate customers through one-to-one support and larger group sessions that build capability and knowledge.
  • Help the Pacific team provide informed advice on market opportunities that strengthen NZTE’s support for exporters across sectors such as food and beverage, consumer, technology and manufacturing.

Role details

This position is known internally as Market Manager - Pacific.

It is a NZ L17 role.

What we are looking for

You should be a confident, proactive and commercially aware relationship manager who can work at pace and navigate complex stakeholder environments. Sound judgement, initiative and a collaborative approach are important for success.

  • Proven senior relationship management and influencing experience, preferably in government, business or cross-agency environments.
  • Strong communication skills, including concise briefings, quick information triage and practical insight.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, connect people and keep work progressing in an organised and purposeful manner.
  • A collaborative style, strategic or commercial awareness, and confidence representing NZTE in senior settings.

Experience with Pacific markets, familiarity with NZ Inc. partners, international organisations, or work involving reporting and insights will be an advantage. The role suits someone who is curious, polished, adaptable and motivated to build networks and get things done.

Why join NZTE

NZTE offers a flexible, purpose-led environment where you can contribute to New Zealand’s international success while working alongside skilled colleagues across New Zealand and around the world.

This varied position gives you the chance to shape Pacific market engagement, grow senior stakeholder networks, and contribute to strategic, relationship-led and customer-focused outcomes in an organisation that values flexibility, development and diverse thinking.
