Job description
Overview
We are looking for a Manufacturing Lead specializing in Fabrication to oversee and optimize our shop-floor operations in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The role demands strong leadership to ensure safety compliance, efficient production processes, superior quality control, cost management, and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce strict safety protocols including PPE usage, hot work permits, safe handling practices, and lead regular safety audits to maintain a secure workplace.
- Manage production planning, scheduling, and control activities to achieve weekly and monthly targets, ensuring timely customer deliveries and optimal resource utilization.
- Implement fabrication operations following engineering guidelines for processes such as laser/plasma/Oxy cutting, press brake and turret punch operations, folding, hemming, CNC bending, various welding techniques (MIG/MAG, TIG, Spot), and assembly adhering to SOPs and work instructions.
- Drive productivity enhancement initiatives such as Kaizen, 5S, and SMED to shorten cycle times, improve first-pass yield, and reduce rework and scrap.
- Establish and monitor key performance metrics like On-Time Delivery, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, throughput, and scrap percentage, initiating corrective measures as needed.
- Control production costs, monitor material yield and labor efficiency, propose cost-saving strategies, and prepare detailed production, quality, and key performance indicator reports for management review.
- Ensure strict compliance with drawing tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards, welding qualifications (WPS/PQR), surface treatments, and painting specifications, coordinating customer inspections such as FAI and PPAP.
- Deliver technical support for complex fabrication challenges including nesting, material layout, fit-up techniques, tack welding, distortion control, and fixturing; assist in problem-solving using root cause methodologies like 8D and RCA.
- Oversee machine capacity planning, schedule preventive maintenance with the maintenance team, manage tooling and fixture lifecycle, and evaluate capital investments for new equipment or upgrades.
- Collaborate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Planning and ERP systems, Procurement, and Business Development teams to ensure smooth operations and respond swiftly to quality or scheduling issues.
- Lead and mentor production personnel including leaders, operators, and welders; organize training on welding certifications, machine operation, safety, and process best practices; conduct performance appraisals and develop staffing strategies.
- Perform data-driven analyses of quality metrics and lead continuous improvement programs employing structured problem-solving tools like 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams.
- Identify skill deficiencies and coordinate training programs to standardize workflows, enhance team capabilities, and elevate overall performance.
