Job description
Role Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and proactive Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer to support our safety operations in ensuring a secure and compliant environment within our research facilities. The ideal candidate will be a registered WSH Officer with between 1 and 4 years of relevant experience, particularly in laboratories that handle biological agents, hazardous chemicals, and scientific instruments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and upkeep of the Workplace Safety & Health Management System (WSHMS) aligned with local legal requirements such as the WSH Act and its subsidiary regulations, as well as internal company standards.
- Coordinate with governmental agencies to maintain adherence to applicable regulations and guidelines from bodies including MOH, AVS, SCDF, SPF, NEA, and MOM.
- Advise management regarding updates and changes to Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice, and Standards concerning workplace safety, health, and environmental protection; provide recommendations accordingly.
- Assist with the design and execution of risk management strategies and perform risk assessments for workplace activities.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, providing suggestions for corrective and preventive measures.
- Carry out safety inspections to identify non-compliance issues, unsafe work conditions, and practices to highlight areas needing improvement in WSH performance.
- Create and deliver WSH training programs including safety inductions, and coordinate drills such as chemical spill response and fire evacuation procedures.
- Foster a safety-first culture by actively engaging with researchers and laboratory personnel.
- Manage and implement emergency preparedness and response protocols while effectively communicating these plans to involved parties.
- Serve as the secretariat for the WSH committee facilitating its activities and functions.
Candidate Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or related disciplines.
- Experience in laboratory or research environments is preferred.
- Possession of a registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer certification with MOM is advantageous.
- Acquaintance with both Singaporean and International Workplace Safety and Health Standards and Regulations.
- Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational skills coupled with excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.
