Job description

Overview

We are looking for a diligent and proactive Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer to support the safety initiatives within our research institutes. The successful candidate will help uphold a secure and regulation-compliant environment, particularly in laboratories handling biological agents, hazardous chemicals, and sophisticated scientific apparatus. Preferably, candidates should be registered WSH Officers with one to four years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the deployment and upkeep of the Workplace Safety & Health Management System (WSHMS), ensuring alignment with local legislation such as the WSH Act and internal protocols.
  • Coordinate with government bodies and guarantee adherence to regulations from authorities like MOH, AVS, SCDF, SPF, NEA, and MOM.
  • Advise management on updates to legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and standards, providing recommendations on workplace safety & health and environmental protection.
  • Facilitate risk management initiatives including carrying out workplace risk assessments.
  • Lead investigation into safety incidents, conducting root cause analyses and suggesting corrective and preventive measures.
  • Perform routine safety inspections to identify non-compliance and unsafe conditions, addressing gaps in WSH performance.
  • Design, develop, and deliver WSH training programs, including safety inductions and emergency drills such as chemical spill and fire evacuation exercises.
  • Foster a culture of safety through engagement activities with researchers and laboratory users.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response strategies, communicating these plans effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Serve as secretary and coordinator for the Workplace Safety and Health committee’s activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in laboratory or research settings is advantageous.
  • Registration as a Workplace Safety and Health Officer with MOM is a plus.
  • Sound knowledge of Singaporean and international WSH standards and legislation.
  • Self-motivated with a meticulous approach and an ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
