Manager – Reinsurance

Role overview

Sharq Insurance is seeking a seasoned and strategically minded Manager – Reinsurance to own and guide its reinsurance operations. This position suits a senior insurance specialist with strong command over treaty and facultative reinsurance, portfolio oversight, risk optimization, and stakeholder coordination.

In this role, you will shape practical and cost-efficient reinsurance arrangements that strengthen underwriting results, improve risk transfer, and stay aligned with regulatory and governance expectations.

What you will do

• Direct the end-to-end reinsurance function and ensure reinsurance plans are carried out in line with business goals.
• Handle treaty renewals and facultative placements, making sure they are completed on time and secure the right coverage.
• Create and maintain reinsurance structures that are economical, support growth, and help manage risk effectively.
• Track exposure levels, portfolio results, and underwriting profitability, and propose improvements where needed.
• Examine and sign off on reinsurance deals, placements, contracts, cover notes, and related records.
• Develop and sustain productive relationships with reinsurers, brokers, cedants, and other industry partners in global markets.
• Supervise collections, cash calls, pending recoveries, and month-end reinsurance account closures.
• Work closely with Underwriting, Finance, Claims, and other teams to support portfolio control and reporting.
• Strengthen operational effectiveness, process improvement, governance, and compliance within the reinsurance team.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory rules, AML checks, internal controls, audit standards, and company procedures.
• Lead, coach, and grow a capable reinsurance team while encouraging ownership and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Insurance, or a similar field.
• A professional insurance credential such as AIII, ACII, or an equivalent qualification is strongly preferred.
• 10 to 15 years of experience in the insurance sector, including substantial reinsurance experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance, risk management, technical underwriting, portfolio analysis, pricing, profitability, compliance, and governance.
• Proven ability in analysis, negotiation, stakeholder coordination, and team leadership.
• Good understanding of insurance operations, underwriting workflows, and international reinsurance markets.
