Role Overview

Plaksha University is seeking a careful, responsible, and highly organized Lab Safety Officer to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficiently run laboratory environment in Mohali. This position plays a key role in building a workplace culture centered on safety, accountability, and strong operational standards across all lab spaces.

Safety Inspections and Compliance

• Carry out regular checks of laboratory spaces and equipment to spot possible safety risks.
• Work with the designated lab instructor to uphold safety standards in the lab.
• Inspect lab equipment, ventilation systems, and emergency tools such as eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and spill kits on a routine basis.
• Perform recurring risk reviews to identify hazards and suggest ways to reduce them.
• Update safety procedures whenever regulations change, standards evolve, or new risks appear.

Training and Education

• Create and run complete laboratory safety training sessions for staff, including induction training and regular refreshers.
• Train personnel on correct PPE usage and emergency response steps.
• Provide general awareness training on the risks linked to laboratory tools, materials, and processes.

Incident Handling

• Examine laboratory accidents and near-miss events to identify root causes and put corrective actions in place.
• Record and escalate safety incidents to the appropriate authorities when needed.
• Review incident patterns to find recurring gaps and improve safety practices.
• Keep detailed documentation of incidents, investigations, corrective measures, and follow-up actions.

Policy and Emergency Preparedness

• Partner with lab management to create, revise, and enforce laboratory safety policies and procedures.
• Act as the main contact person for laboratory emergencies and safety-related incidents.
• Design and carry out emergency response plans covering fire safety, chemical spill response, and first-aid procedures.

Waste Management

• Oversee the correct storage and disposal of laboratory waste in line with environmental and safety rules.
