Job description
About the Role
Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is building a new Global Innovation Internships (GII) initiative that will be an important part of how students grow into design-driven innovators and entrepreneurial leaders. This position will lead programmes across selected geographies, develop industry partnerships, and ensure the right students are matched with the right opportunities. The GII team sits within the Student Experience & Transformation group, and the role reports to the Deputy Director, GII.
Programme Development and Management
- Collaborate with the GII leader to shape and launch programmes for the target regions under this role’s remit.
- Build relationships with partner universities, embassies, startups, incubators, and similar ecosystem partners.
- Manage the budget assigned to the relevant programme while staying aligned with the wider GII budget.
- Work closely with internal teams including the Office of International Relations (OIR), Career Development Centre (CDC), and Venture and Incubation Experience (VIE).
Programme Operations and Process Oversight
- Handle end-to-end student mobility activities in the assigned geographies, including onboarding, arrival support, and immigration-related steps.
- Coordinate with mentors and supervisors so students receive guidance as they develop ideas and projects.
- Track internship quality, liaise with overseas mentors, and ensure learning goals, report submissions, and evaluations are completed on time.
- Support outcomes that lead students to start their own ventures or join startups, including following their progress for up to five years after GII.
Student Support and Crisis Response
- Coach and advise students so they can make the most of their overseas immersion and internship experience.
- Link students with the most suitable partners to strengthen their exposure and development.
- Take the lead in crisis management and response when situations require it.
Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should hold at least a bachelor’s degree in any field. The role calls for overseas market experience, ideally with exposure to startup and technology communities in Europe, North America, or the PRC. A successful candidate will bring 10 years of progressive experience in higher education, international programmes, global mobility, or business development, including 5 years in a managerial role. Strong partnership-building ability is essential, along with a genuine commitment to student development, mentoring, and team leadership. Candidates should also understand cross-border student and work visa processes, have experience raising funds from public or private sources, and be confident in communication and presentations, including representing the university in international settings.
