About the Company

Air India Limited is an Indian aviation holding company based in Gurugram. It includes Air India and Air India Express and operates in the aviation sector with a focus on airline services.

Role Purpose

This position is responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring transparency, and meeting compliance requirements across lease and maintenance transactions. The role supports the business by analysing costs, monitoring obligations, and reducing risk through accurate accounting and close coordination with stakeholders.

Lease Agreement Management

  • Handle the monthly close process, including posting journal entries and accruals for aircraft, engine, and property leases.
  • Keep a central record of all lease agreements and track the relevant commercial and financial terms.
  • Review lease data such as Maintenance Reserves (MR), Security Reserves (SR), and redelivery/end-of-life obligations to ensure accounting accuracy.
  • Prepare reconciliations, variance reviews, and periodic reports on lease liabilities and performance.
  • Track maintenance expenses and support timely finalisation of the books.
  • Spot opportunities to improve costs and streamline processes.
  • Ensure adherence to Ind AS 116 and any other applicable accounting standards.
  • Work with internal and external auditors and respond to audit observations related to lease and maintenance accounting.
  • Coordinate with lessors and internal teams to keep operations running smoothly and resolve issues quickly.

Group MRO Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly close and accounting for Group MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) transactions.
  • Partner with Group entities and Engineering teams to collect, validate, and reconcile operational and financial information.
  • Ensure all Group MRO services are invoiced correctly and on time.
  • Carry out financial analysis and help improve and standardise MRO processes.

Additional Responsibilities

The role may include other assignments, projects, or duties as needed in line with business priorities and stakeholder expectations.

Skills and Competencies

The role calls for solid accounting knowledge, sound financial judgement, strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines. Good working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, is also important.

Key Interfaces

Internally, the position works closely with Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Operations, and other teams to support compliance, reduce risk, and align financial processes. Externally, the role involves coordination with lessors, vendors, and maintenance service providers to ensure contract compliance and smooth transaction handling.

Education and Experience

Candidates should be a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or hold a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline. The role requires at least 4–5 years of experience in lease accounting or financial accounting, with 5+ years preferred. Exposure to aviation industry accounting, lease frameworks, and regulatory compliance is an advantage.
