Job description
The role
We are seeking a motivated Facilities Manager to take charge of a lively, shared government workplace that supports up to 1,000 people across three agencies. This is a hands-on leadership position in a modern green-star building where teamwork, innovation, and a high-quality workplace experience are central.
You will work closely with colleagues across all three agencies, build trusted relationships, and navigate different priorities with confidence. The role calls for practical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to find effective solutions in a complex environment.
As the leader of a small team, you will partner with contractors and oversee the smooth running of daily operations, budgets, contracts, and service delivery. You will also help manage upcoming workplace changes and create a strong welcome experience through well-run site inductions.
The ideal candidate brings at least 3 years of management experience, strong organisation, comfort with technology, and excellent spoken and written communication skills. This is a busy role with variety and responsibility, where flexibility, ownership, and resilience are essential.
What you bring
- At least 3 years of experience in a senior property or facilities management role, with solid knowledge of how facilities operations work.
- Good understanding of health and safety obligations.
- A proven history of leading a facilities team that can stay organised, effective, and able to manage multiple priorities at once.
- Comfort with a role that includes on-call and after-hours responsibilities, rather than standard office hours only.
- Current first-aid training, or a willingness to complete it.
- Appreciation of mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the workplace; confidence in te reo Māori, or a strong commitment to building capability in this area, is welcome.
- A demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and to applying cultural capability in day-to-day practice.
Who we are looking for
- People who act with integrity and take responsibility for doing the right thing, even when it is difficult.
- People who understand the purpose behind their work and focus on delivering meaningful value.
- People who remain curious, open to learning, and willing to see challenges as opportunities to grow.
- People who build respectful, inclusive relationships and show care for others.
- People who work collaboratively across teams and contribute to shared outcomes.
