Role overview
A fast-expanding SME in Crawley, West Sussex is looking for a Management Accountant to take ownership of the finance function on a day-to-day basis. The role is central to maintaining accurate accounts, producing timely reports, and helping leadership make informed decisions. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and have the chance to develop into a more strategic finance position while still being heavily involved in hands-on operational work.
Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for management accounting and ensure financial reporting is accurate and delivered on time
- Look for ways to improve and simplify finance processes where appropriate
- Run purchase ledger and credit control activities
- Work alongside an external accounting agency to keep finance operations running smoothly
- Assist with cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting
- Prepare financial insight that helps guide business decisions and supports growth
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls and related procedures
- Support project accounting tasks when required, although deep specialist experience is not essential
- Partner with internal teams and offer practical finance guidance where needed
- Bring a proactive, flexible approach and be willing to support the wider team beyond core duties
- Confidently advise colleagues on finance-related matters
- Lead IT automation initiatives and improvements to reporting
Required profile
- Practical experience in management accounting and wider financial operations
- Excellent attention to detail, combined with the ability to think commercially and strategically
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable using initiative
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Confidence working with financial systems
- Ability to explain finance topics clearly to non-finance colleagues
- Background in purchase ledger and credit control
- CIMA or ACCA at Level qualification
- Willingness to be hands-on and support a small, fast-moving team
- Strong interest in systems, process improvement, and IT automation
Desirable background
- Experience working in a project-based environment
- Exposure to manufacturing, particularly bespoke products
- Previous experience in the construction sector
