Job description
About the Role
We are collaborating with a rapidly expanding, founder-led consumer products business in London looking for a Management Accountant to join their finance team. This company manages a portfolio of fast-growing FMCG brands across retail, eCommerce, and international wholesale, entering a phase of significant growth and scaling. With ambitions to surpass £20 million in turnover within the next 12 to 24 months, the finance function is evolving to accommodate increasing operational complexity, including an ERP system rollout and first-year audit preparation.
This is a dynamic, hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced SME environment. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will take full ownership of the month-end close process and contribute to establishing the finance infrastructure necessary for the company’s growth ambitions.
About the Company
The client is an ambitious, private consumer brand group managing multiple UK entities involved in manufacturing, sourcing, and branded consumer products. They have achieved impressive growth through strong retail collaborations, direct consumer sales, and international market expansion. Despite this rapid progress, they maintain an entrepreneurial culture emphasizing ownership, agility, and team contribution.
The finance team is lean, collaborative, and highly engaged with the wider business, providing early exposure to founders and senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the month-end closing activities for multiple corporate entities.
- Prepare detailed monthly management accounts including insightful variance analysis.
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules are accurate and up to date.
- Record journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and month-end adjustments promptly.
- Assist with year-end audit procedures and coordinate with external auditors as required.
- Deliver financial analyses supporting commercial decision-making processes.
- Support inventory accounting functions including stock reconciliations.
- Provide assistance with accounts payable, supplier inquiries, and high-volume credit control when needed.
- Contribute to ERP system implementation and other finance transformation initiatives.
- Drive enhancements in financial reporting, processes, and internal controls.
- Collaborate closely with operational teams throughout the organization.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification or actively pursuing these certifications (with study support offered).
- Proven experience in management accounting roles.
- Strong expertise in balance sheet reconciliations.
- Familiarity with audit support activities.
- Background in FMCG, retail, consumer products, or inventory-driven businesses.
- Comfortable operating within a growth-focused SME setting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems.
- Experience with Xero accounting software is an advantage.
- Exposure to ERP implementation activities is beneficial.
Desirable Personal Attributes
- Proactive and willing to engage with detailed finance tasks.
- Curious mindset committed to continuous improvement.
- Comfortable working in a flat organizational structure.
- Highly organized and process-focused.
- Adaptable to rapid changes in a growing business environment.
- Effective communicator who collaborates well across teams.
Compensation and Location
The role offers a salary between £55,000 and £60,000 per year, alongside benefits and potential study support. The position is based in London with a hybrid work arrangement. Immediate start is preferred.
Diversity and Inclusion
The employer is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and welcomes candidates of all backgrounds, ensuring fair consideration regardless of race, religion, gender identity, disability, sexuality, or other protected characteristics.
