Overview
Hotel Equities, a celebrated hotel development and management firm, is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Supervisor for the Moxy Halifax Downtown Hotel located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The role involves supporting the Rooms Operations Manager with daily operations, overseeing maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and corporate standards to safeguard the hotel’s property, guests, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Maintenance team by conducting interviews, scheduling shifts, providing training, coaching, and addressing performance-related issues and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for property and equipment in adherence to corporate policies and relevant safety regulations, ensuring top-quality maintenance standards.
- Evaluate and prioritize maintenance service requests to guarantee timely, safe, and satisfactory resolution for guests and management.
- Conduct regular testing and inspection of life safety systems to maintain full operational functionality at all times.
- Monitor the consumption of utilities to evaluate the efficiency of current systems implemented.
- Review procurement requests and oversee department expenses to meet or exceed budgetary goals.
- Maintain administrative documentation such as schedules, logs, and records to ensure seamless department operations and reduce liabilities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent secondary education.
- Experience with hotel brands such as Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, or Hyatt and familiarity with their operational standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in building management and engineering principles combined with strong leadership capabilities.
- Proficient investigative and analytical skills to assess department activities and provide informed recommendations.
- Effective supervisory abilities.
- Strong communication skills, including excellent hearing, speaking, and visual capabilities for interaction and property inspection.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs., bend, kneel, stand for extended periods, climb ladders up to 20 feet, and navigate multiple floors and heights within the hotel.
- Occasional driving within a 20-mile radius to procure supplies or equipment.
- Demonstrated passion for customer service and team engagement.
- Capacity to read, write, and perform basic math for documentation and transaction purposes.
- Problem-solving, reasoning, and mentoring skills essential for daily operations and team development.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Physical demands include navigating approximately 210 steps daily and performing maintenance-related physical activities.
