Job description

Position Overview

The Maintenance Painter is responsible for preserving and enhancing the appearance of the interiors and exteriors of school buildings throughout the district, ensuring that all facilities remain in excellent condition to support educational activities at all times.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Should demonstrate aptitude or competence relevant to the assigned duties.
  • The Board reserves the right to accept alternative qualifications deemed suitable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs on interior and exterior surfaces including buildings, furniture, cabinetry, shelving, equipment, and perform sheet rock repairs and patching.
  • Prepare and plan painting assignments by measuring, cleaning, caulking, masking, spackling, paint removal, and mixing new paints and finishes.
  • Assess which repair tasks can be handled internally and which require outsourcing, advising the Maintenance Coordinator accordingly.
  • Supervise painting repairs conducted by outside contractors.
  • Ensure the use of correct procedures and tools during all painting-related work.
  • Recommend necessary supplies and equipment, while managing inventory of district-owned tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Estimate labor, materials, and overhead costs for painting projects.
  • Adhere to protocols for the disposal of waste and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to support preventive maintenance.
  • Paint various areas including hallways, classrooms, offices, and bathrooms.
  • Perform additional tasks when required such as responding to inclement weather conditions and other duties assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator.

Physical Requirements

This role requires a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle tools, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing. Occasional climbing or balancing may be necessary. The employee must be capable of lifting or moving weights up to 100 pounds. Essential visual abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Employment Terms

This is a 240-day position. Compensation and work year details will be determined by the Board. Performance evaluations will be conducted according to the Board's policies for Support Services Personnel.
