Job description
About Us
Lutheran Homes Group is a large not-for-profit organisation that provides residential aged care, home care, and retirement living services to older people in South Australia and regional Victoria. Backed by more than 1,300 employees and volunteers, the organisation focuses on delivering personalised support that helps seniors live with dignity, choice, and quality of life. Its culture is built around care, innovation, strong values, and ongoing staff development.
About the Role
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for keeping facilities operating safely, smoothly, and to a consistently high standard. This position covers planned and responsive maintenance, contractor coordination, record keeping, and day-to-day support for residents, employees, and other stakeholders. The aim is to maintain a secure, compliant, and well-functioning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep buildings, equipment, and assets in safe working order while meeting building codes, Australian safety standards, and budget expectations.
- Plan and carry out routine and reactive maintenance, assign tasks, manage approved contractors, and respond to urgent breakdowns or mechanical issues.
- Look after internal and external fixtures, plant and equipment, air-conditioning systems, cleaning duties, and Legionella control documentation, ensuring records are complete and current.
- Prepare and update maintenance logs, safety checks, purchase orders, work orders, and other documents in line with internal procedures.
- Deliver prompt, professional service by communicating well with residents, staff, contractors, and other stakeholders, and prioritising tasks that affect resident wellbeing.
About You
You bring relevant post-trade or advanced qualifications along with hands-on experience in general maintenance. You are comfortable using tools and equipment safely, follow manual handling practices, and can work independently in a busy environment. You are organised, self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively in a respectful, customer-focused way. A strong understanding of WHS, building systems, and maintenance technology is important, as is a current Australian driver’s licence (P2 or above) and a willingness to drive.
Additional Information
- You may be asked to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- The successful applicant will need a current NDIS worker clearance.
- In line with aged care health guidance, candidates are encouraged to be up to date with all recommended vaccinations.
Why Join Lutheran Homes Group?
- Access salary packaging that can provide up to $18,549 of income tax-free benefit.
- Work in a role where your skills help create a meaningful difference for residents.
- Take advantage of opportunities to build your career and develop new skills.
- Join a supportive team culture that values professionalism, enjoyment at work, and employee growth.
