Job description

About the role

This is a permanent full-time position based at Mercy Place Rice Village in Geelong, where you will support the day-to-day upkeep of an aged care facility. Reporting to the Service Manager, the role focuses on repairs, preventive maintenance, grounds care, and helping maintain a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

The organisation has a long history of caring for communities and offers the stability of a well-established not-for-profit provider, along with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to resident wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

You will handle a broad mix of maintenance and grounds duties to keep the site operating safely and efficiently.

  • Carry out ongoing repairs and planned maintenance across buildings, plant, equipment, and furniture.
  • Keep gardens, lawns, and landscaped spaces neat, safe, and inviting for residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Complete regular gardening tasks such as mowing, pruning, planting, weeding, mulching, and irrigation upkeep.
  • Work with contractors as required.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and raise issues for action.
  • Support the handling of health and safety matters to maintain a secure workplace.

What you will bring

The ideal candidate is resilient, compassionate, organised, and committed to delivering resident-focused care. You should be comfortable working independently while also contributing positively to a team environment.

  • Experience coordinating contractors and using environmentally responsible gardening practices aligned with sustainability goals.
  • Strong time management, organisation, communication, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • A positive, flexible, and caring attitude.
  • Ability to build respectful, friendly working relationships.
  • Prior maintenance experience; trade qualifications or a trade background are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in aged care or a hotel setting would be an advantage.
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Good computer skills; experience with a computer-based maintenance system is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and maintenance standards for residential aged care.

Application requirements and other information

Please submit a resume, cover letter, and copies of all relevant qualifications with your application. Email applications will not be accepted; applicants must respond through the job advertisement.

To be considered, you must provide evidence of, or be in the process of obtaining, a current Police Record Check, a trade qualification or more than 3 years of experience in a commercial maintenance role, and a current driver's licence.

Mercy Health welcomes candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and supports an inclusive, equitable recruitment process. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people of all ages, sexualities, genders, abilities, and cultural backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
