Job description

Role overview

This role is being advertised for a partner employer, which will handle applications and the rest of the hiring process. The company is seeking an M&A Opportunity Sourcer in Germany to help identify and assess acquisition targets across European and US markets.

Working in a fast-scaling e-commerce setting, you will use research, commercial judgment, and structured analysis to separate strong acquisition prospects from weaker leads. The position works closely with senior leadership and supports decision-making at CEO level. It is well suited to someone who enjoys market research, strategic evaluation, and helping shape an M&A growth strategy from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

  • Search for possible acquisition targets in Europe and the US using digital research tools, business databases, marketplaces, and online intelligence sources.
  • Assess target businesses in depth by reviewing their models, ownership, capabilities, and strategic alignment.
  • Screen and rank opportunities so that only the most compelling targets move forward.
  • Prepare concise deal summaries that explain fit, risks, and the reasoning behind each shortlisted opportunity.
  • Draft first-round outreach messages for founder-to-founder communication for leadership approval.
  • Keep the pipeline organised and filtered so only relevant, high-quality prospects reach management review.
  • Create market maps and sector overviews to support longer-term M&A planning.
  • Work directly with the CEO to ensure sourcing efforts match acquisition priorities.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in structured sourcing, investment research, M&A origination, venture capital, private equity, strategic sourcing, or procurement.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to assess business quality and strategic fit quickly.
  • Advanced research capability, including use of LinkedIn, databases, industry directories, and web intelligence tools.
  • Excellent written English and the ability to produce clear, structured, analytical summaries.
  • Comfort with AI tools, automation software, or data-led workflows to speed up research and sourcing.
  • Ability to work independently, stay organised, and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical thinking, accuracy, and the ability to evaluate qualitative and quantitative inputs together.
  • Experience with market mapping, investment pipelines, or structured sourcing is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with CRM software or pipeline tracking tools is beneficial.

Perks and benefits

  • Flexible freelance, part-time arrangement of 0-20 hours per week, with an average of around 10 hours.
  • Hourly pay between USD 20 and USD 60, depending on experience.
  • Fully remote work with hours aligned to European and US business time zones.
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership, including regular interaction with the CEO.
  • Opportunity to own early-stage M&A sourcing and influence acquisition strategy from the start.
  • Low-bureaucracy environment that values independent judgment and high-quality decisions.
  • Experience with international M&A processes and strategic corporate development.
  • Possibility of longer-term collaboration and increased responsibility as the function expands.

Eligibility

This opportunity is intended for candidates based in Germany who can work remotely and coordinate with European and US business hours.
