The role is part of the Energy business area, which supports the energy transition by contributing to the development and operation of high- and extra-high-voltage switchgear systems that play a key role in power distribution across Germany and Europe.

Role overview

As an LWL technician, fiber optic technician, or telecommunications technician, you will support fiber-optic work in substation construction and contribute to installation, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out fiber-optic splicing work on single-mode and multi-mode fibers.
  • Perform OTDR testing, attenuation measurements, and final acceptance measurements.
  • Evaluate measurement results and document them properly.
  • Locate faults, analyze issues, and resolve disturbances in fiber-optic connections.
  • Install, connect, and test fiber-optic patch panels, splice boxes, distribution units, and connection components.
  • Select and verify suitable fiber-optic components such as pigtails, couplers, patch cables, connector types, and splice cassettes.
  • Read and interpret circuit diagrams, connection plans, fiber-optic overviews, and technical project documentation.
  • Derive required materials and work scope from project documents.
  • Support project and site management with technical fiber-optic questions.
  • Coordinate with customers, site management, project management, and subcontractors.
  • Create and maintain test reports, inspection records, and technical documentation.
  • Help establish internal standards for fiber-optic work in substation construction.

Candidate profile

  • Completed vocational training in telecommunications technology, telecom engineering, fiber-optic technology, information technology, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
  • Practical experience in fiber-optic or glass-fiber technology.
  • Knowledge of splicing single-mode and/or multi-mode fibers.
  • Experience using fiber-optic measuring equipment, ideally OTDR devices.
  • Strong technical understanding of fiber-optic components, connector systems, and distribution technology.
  • Ability to read technical documents, wiring diagrams, and circuit plans and apply them in practice.
  • Careful, structured, and independent working style.
  • Willingness to travel for projects across Germany.
  • Valid driving license class B.
