Role Overview
Situated near Lake Cullulleraine, around 60 km from Mildura, this position offers a unique opportunity to live alongside the Murray River with subsidised on-site accommodation provided. The role combines hands-on operations, maintenance, environmental monitoring, and customer engagement by supporting lock functionality, maintaining infrastructure at multiple sites, gathering operational data, and ensuring safe public access while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate lock chambers and related infrastructure, ensuring safe navigation on the River Murray.
- Assist with the operation and upkeep of locks, weirs, fishways, and environmental management systems.
- Perform routine inspections and accurately record operational and environmental metrics.
- Maintain public amenities and deliver excellent customer service to river users and visitors.
- Support river flow management as required by operational policies.
- Safely operate and maintain tools, machinery, plant, and vehicles.
- Promote a strong safety culture through hazard identification, incident reporting, and complying with safe work protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contractors, customers, and stakeholders.
- Engage in environmental monitoring activities, such as fishway operations and tracking fish movements.
- Participate in rostered weekend shifts and occasional after-hours duties with applicable overtime and allowances.

Candidate Profile
- A proactive, positive attitude with eagerness to learn and contribute.
- Ability to work independently within a supportive small team.
- Experience operating various tools, machinery, plant, or equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and accurate record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency with computer-based systems and reporting software.
- Valid driver’s licence and White Card certification.
Desirable qualifications and skills: knowledge of river systems and lock/weir operations; Boat Licence or Restricted Coxswain Certificate; HR or higher truck license; experience or licenses for plant and heavy machinery operation.
