Job description
Role Overview
This position sits within Aditya Birla Capital Ltd, in the Financial Services business unit and the Sales function, under the Retail Secured department. The role is based around managing a city/branch-level sales area and driving growth for secured micro loan business while keeping a strong focus on compliance, portfolio quality, and profitability.
Purpose of the Role
The job exists to plan and deliver branch or area-level sales growth in partnership with the Territory Head, and to achieve business targets through team execution while consistently following sales processes and guidelines. The role also involves joint decision-making with the Risk function as per the approval matrix, coordination with Risk, Operations, and Sales Governance teams to protect portfolio health, and active support in improving profitability through process upgrades, channel optimization, and timely intervention in exceptions or underperforming cases. In addition, the role helps expand cross-selling across Aditya Birla Capital and Aditya Birla Finance Group products in line with regional plans and customer needs.
Business Context
As the lending arm of Aditya Birla Capital, ABFL provides specialized financing solutions across Capital Markets, Corporate/Trade Finance, Commercial Real Estate, and Mortgages. The organization is among the top 25 NBFCs in India and has a balance sheet of more than INR 15,000 crore. With a presence across 18 cities, it continues to expand into new geographies and products while maintaining strong process discipline and system capabilities.
The Secured Micro Loan business serves short-term and medium-term working capital requirements of small businesses and individuals through customized products backed by collateral. These offerings are aimed at self-employed individuals and non-individual entities, where the end use of funds—such as working capital needs or business expansion—is assessed during the appraisal process. The segment is highly retail-oriented, with high transaction volumes, smaller ticket sizes, and relatively higher spread and profit margins.
Major Challenges
The position requires the ability to meet sales plans in a coverage area while accounting for local market conditions, distribution dynamics, and customer preferences. Growth must be achieved in a competitive environment where market-linked pricing, prevailing IRR and processing fee levels, and established competitor networks can affect performance. The role also demands strong local networking, lead generation, cross-sell identification, and continuous improvement in product knowledge, operational understanding, negotiation, and relationship management.
Another major focus is ensuring high conversion, sanction, and utilization rates while building a healthy sourcing funnel to meet targets. At the same time, the role must protect portfolio quality through strong pre-screening, credit discipline, and effective NPA prevention, all while maintaining compliant sales operations under sales pressure and changing market cycles.
Key Result Areas
- Branch sales planning and management: Build the branch plan with the Territory Head, cascade targets to the team, track market movement and competition, manage branch performance, maintain productivity, and prepare periodic MIS on disbursements, profitability, NPAs, and expansion.
- Customer acquisition and engagement: Identify growth opportunities, lead new acquisition efforts, support complex customer transactions, clarify business goals and product value for the team, manage complaints and escalations, and support customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Operational effectiveness: Improve processes across sourcing, approval, servicing, and collections; manage distribution and stakeholder coordination; drive faster turnaround times; and implement best practices to improve productivity and business impact.
- Cross-selling: Execute cross-sell plans agreed with the Territory Head, align the team to the strategy, and provide communication, training, and guidance to improve adoption.
- Team and stakeholder management: Coach team members, support capability building, nominate people for relevant training, and coordinate proactively with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth business execution.
- Portfolio and risk management: Partner with Risk, Operations, and Sales Governance to maintain controls, support credit approval and documentation review, monitor risks through MIS and analytics, manage PDD closures and collections, and guide the team on delinquency and early-alert actions.
