Job description

About the Property

Starlight Chalet & Health Spa is a quiet boutique retreat in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, created for visitors who want rest, nature, local culture, wellness, hiking, birdwatching, and a genuine Blue Mountain stay.

Role Overview

The business is looking for a dependable, friendly, and guest-focused Live-In Hospitality Host & Cook. This person will stay on the property and be among the first people guests meet, helping them feel comfortable, welcomed, and well cared for during their visit. The ideal person remains calm in busy moments, presents professionally, cooks confidently, and is comfortable working in an isolated mountain setting.

Key Duties

  • Welcome guests on arrival and help with check-in as well as basic guest requests.
  • Prepare easy, tasty Jamaican and/or home-style meals for guests when needed.
  • Keep the environment clean, peaceful, and inviting at all times.
  • Support guest experiences by sharing basic information about the property and helping arrange activities.
  • Relay guest concerns, needs, and maintenance issues to management without delay.
  • Help keep an eye on the property so guests feel secure and looked after.
  • Assist with guest setup, meal setup, and general hospitality support whenever required.
  • Represent the property with discretion, integrity, professionalism, and warmth.

What the Team Is Looking For

The preferred candidate has background in hospitality, guest care, cooking, or caretaking, and enjoys preparing food for others. Experience handling dietary restrictions is valuable. The right person should be respectful, approachable, dependable, honest, responsible, and punctual. Comfort with onsite living in a remote mountain environment is essential, along with the ability to work on their own with little supervision. Strong communication, a neat professional appearance, flexibility, and willingness to help in different areas are also important. References must be available.

Preferred Background

Experience in a hotel, villa, guesthouse, restaurant, or retreat setting is preferred. Cooking experience with Jamaican dishes, breakfast items, soups, stews, vegetarian meals, or wellness-oriented food is an added advantage.

Qualifications

  • Solid guest service ability, including warmth, empathy, and anticipation of guest needs.
  • Clear spoken and written communication for guest interaction and coordination with coworkers.
  • Good organisation and multitasking skills to manage bookings, schedules, and guest requests efficiently.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Professional grooming and conduct, with close attention to maintaining clean, welcoming spaces.
  • Background in hospitality, customer service, or tourism is an asset; experience in wellness or spa settings is helpful.
  • Familiarity with Kingston and the Blue Mountains area and attractions is beneficial.
  • High school completion or equivalent is required, and extra hospitality or tourism training/certification is a plus.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should send a resume or short work history together with references. Please include details of your experience in hospitality, cooking, and live-in roles.
