Job Overview
Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP is looking to hire an experienced litigation lawyer to join their Knowledge and Practice Innovation team. This role involves developing and executing strategies to support and enhance the litigation practices in Alberta and British Columbia. The successful candidate will create and maintain knowledge resources, implement best practice solutions for legal service delivery, and collaborate closely with litigation lawyers to support their work.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Practice Group leaders and the Senior Director of Knowledge Management to set strategic priorities and implement effective solutions for improved efficiency.
- Develop and update substantive knowledge tools including checklists, research materials, precedents, and toolkits for litigation lawyers.
- Ensure easy accessibility of knowledge resources through the Firm's Knowledge Bank and content sharing platforms.
- Stay informed about legal and practice developments to inform thought leadership and share insights with the Practice Group.
- Assist in preparing business development materials requiring input on legal content and budgeting.
- Facilitate capturing and categorizing matter descriptions within the Firm's experience management system.
- Lead the development of educational and training materials for lawyers and paralegals.
- Work alongside the Practice Innovation team to implement improvements in legal service delivery through technology, automation, AI, and digital transformation.
- Coordinate with litigation innovation lawyers firmwide to promote best practice sharing.
- Provide specialized legal advice and hands-on support on litigation matters, including research and e-discovery assistance.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum five years of litigation experience in a client-facing role at a reputable law firm.
- Strong academic credentials with comprehensive knowledge of litigation law applicable in British Columbia and Alberta.
- Proficient technical legal, analytical, drafting, and communication abilities alongside excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for technology and problem-solving using technical solutions to streamline legal processes.
- Effective project management skills, capable of balancing priorities and collaborating across teams in different locations.
- A growth mindset with curiosity about emerging best practices in legal knowledge management and practice innovation.
Education and Licensing
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent is required. The candidate must be a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia. Admission to the Alberta bar is advantageous.
Reporting Structure
Reports will be to the heads of the Practice Group in Alberta and British Columbia, as well as the firmwide Partner leading Knowledge and Practice Innovation.
Compensation
The salary band for this role ranges from $160,000 to $200,000 annually.
