Job summary
This position supports a clean, safe, and comfortable hospital environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The role focuses on sanitation, floor maintenance, waste handling, linen processing, spill response, and routine housekeeping work while following hospital procedures and infection prevention standards.
Key duties
- Carry out floor maintenance activities such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing different surfaces to keep areas safe and tidy.
- Pick up, transport, and discard waste correctly, including biohazard, infectious, and noninfectious material, in line with facility rules and regulatory requirements.
- Manage used linens, replace them with clean bags, and ensure soiled items are secured and stored appropriately.
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, corridors, offices, and shared spaces while meeting infection control expectations.
- Handle spills and contamination incidents using proper cleaning and disinfection methods and observing safety precautions.
- Move furniture, mats, and related items when needed for cleaning, maintenance, or internal department moves.
- Keep track of cleaning supplies, use them responsibly, and store them safely.
- Report maintenance or repair concerns to a supervisor or the facilities team so they can be addressed promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of cleaning work and complete documentation for environmental services activities.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned, remain dependable in attendance, and follow all policies and standards.
Experience and qualifications
Applicants should have 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or hospital facility maintenance. The role calls for working knowledge of standard cleaning methods, chemicals, and floor care practices; safe handling of biohazard and infectious waste; proper use and upkeep of cleaning equipment; careful attention to detail; and the ability to follow schedules and procedures in a busy healthcare setting. Good communication and the ability to work both independently and with a team are also important.
Certification preference
A certification in Environmental Services or Healthcare Cleaning, such as CHEST or CHESP, is preferred.
