Role overview
The City of Lloydminster is hiring two full-time, ongoing Lifeguard/Instructor positions at the Bioclean Aquatic Centre in Lloydminster, Alberta. This role combines pool safety supervision with swim instruction for participants of all ages and abilities. Pay is set at Band 2, ranging from $24.85 to $27.12 per hour, and is covered by the CUPE 1015 Agreement.
Key duties
- Explain pool policies and safety procedures to the public.
- Watch swimmers and other patrons closely to help prevent accidents and injuries.
- Apply facility rules to support safe and appropriate use of the pool and equipment.
- Promote orderly behavior and ensure proper conduct within the facility.
- Respond to emergencies and deliver first aid when needed.
- Help protect the safety of both the public and staff.
- Carry out routine daily maintenance tasks.
- Teach Swim for Life lessons, including swimming skills, strokes, and water safety.
- Create a welcoming, safe, and supportive learning environment.
- Work effectively with children and adults across a wide range of abilities.
- Adjust communication approaches for swimmers of different ages.
- Build positive, engaging lesson experiences.
- Prepare lesson plans for each class.
- Keep children engaged and focused during lessons.
- Support overall pool safety by reinforcing rules and using proper procedures.
- Assist during urgent situations and provide first aid as required.
- Perform daily pool upkeep duties.
- Complete any other related work assigned.
Schedule and working conditions
This position involves early mornings, daytime hours, evenings, and weekends. Availability to work weekends is required.
Qualifications
- National Lifeguard Award (NL).
- Swim for Life Instructor certification.
- Standard First Aid with CPR C.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of National Lifeguard certification, including standing for long periods, lifting and carrying, and staying alert in loud, busy, hot, or cold environments.
- Flexibility to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.
Pre-employment requirements
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- The selected candidate must provide proof of all qualifications.
