Job description

About the Organization

MINDS has supported persons with intellectual disabilities and their families since 1962, building services around the belief that every individual has strengths and potential. The organisation focuses on improving quality of life, expanding inclusion in society, and strengthening support for people with intellectual disabilities across Singapore.

Today, MINDS is one of Singapore’s largest charities with more than 1,200 employees. Its work spans community-based services, employability programmes, education, home-based support, and other services that address the physical, psychological, environmental, and social needs of persons with intellectual disabilities throughout their lives.

Its service network includes schools, employment and training development centres, home-based care, and community-based support. The organisation also works to improve community participation and support for caregivers and clients.

Role Overview

As a Life Coach, you will provide guidance, training, intervention, and day-to-day support to persons with intellectual disabilities to strengthen their independent living and community living capabilities. The role also involves working alongside caregivers, social workers, and community partners to discuss future care planning and build stronger support networks.

Within the Community-Based Support Services team and the Future Care Planning Team, you will help clients progress towards greater independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in the community, with the ultimate aim of improving their overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

You will deliver person-centred support and contribute to care planning, documentation, and community-based programmes.

  • Provide coaching, training, support, and structured activities that help clients meet goals in their care plans and manage community living needs.
  • Share information with clients on available social support services from other organisations when relevant.
  • Handle challenging behaviours in a calm and appropriate manner.
  • Suggest practical steps to reduce risks and protect client well-being.
  • Develop training materials and contribute to the preparation and review of future care plans.
  • Keep client records, progress notes, and incident reports accurate, current, and complete.
  • Follow basic health, hygiene, and safety advisories to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Use technology effectively for daily work and teaching needs.
  • Plan and conduct social, recreational, and educational activities that support independence, wellness, and quality of life.
  • Help clients build personal, social, independent living, and communication skills.
  • Spot opportunities to improve programmes, activities, and training approaches.

Requirements

  • Minimum Diploma qualification.
  • Background in Disability Studies or Special Education will be an advantage.
  • Prior experience in educating or training persons with intellectual disabilities is an added plus.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment will be helpful.
  • Self-driven and able to take part fully in both on-site and off-site activities.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge is an advantage.

Additional Information

The role requires a caring, respectful, and patient professional who can work collaboratively with community stakeholders and partners to advocate for clients’ needs and support them in living with assistance in the community.

Applicants should be prepared to support both on-site and off-site activities as part of the job.
