Role overview

Waimakariri District Council is looking for a part-time Library Communications Assistant to join the Library Communications Team in Rangiora, Canterbury. This fixed-term position runs from July to November 2026 and focuses on preparing existing website content for transfer to a new digital platform.

The role is a chance to sharpen, reorganise, and rethink how library services and stories are presented online so the information is easy to find, clear to read, and accessible to a wide audience.

Key duties

  • Review current website material and improve it for accuracy, clarity, and usefulness.
  • Edit and organise content so it is ready for migration to the new website.
  • Work within brand rules and the organisation’s style guide to maintain a consistent Waimakariri Libraries tone of voice.
  • Apply content design and UX writing methods to make the website easier to use.
  • Help shape a simple, logical information structure for the site.
  • Make sure all content aligns with web accessibility expectations.

What you will bring

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys producing content that is easy for users to understand and navigate.

  • A tertiary qualification in Writing or Creative Communication with web coordination and management experience, or a New Zealand Diploma in Web Development and Design.
  • Well-developed writing, editing, and proofreading ability.
  • Hands-on experience with content design or UX writing.
  • The ability to understand different audiences and tailor content accordingly.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility-friendly writing, including plain language and inclusive design.
  • Experience reviewing and migrating content.
  • Familiarity with information architecture concepts.
  • A genuine respect for te ao Māori and a commitment to bicultural practice.

  • This is a fixed-term role from July 2026 to November 2026.
  • The position is for 20 hours per week.
