Job description

Job Overview

The Library Associate acts as a vital link between library administration and users, ensuring all information regarding building facilities and services is accurate, useful, and accessible. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success and Scholarly Technology, this role involves outreach to the university community, including students, faculty, and staff, supporting positive experiences with Libraries and Academic Innovation (LAI) services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain current, relevant, and user-friendly content across LAI websites, including library.gwu.edu.
  • Respond to community inquiries via multiple channels, provide proactive information through orientations and outreach events.
  • Serve as a liaison to gather user needs about LAI information; ensure websites' usability and accessibility using tools like SiteImprove and conducting usability testing regularly.
  • Manage LAI social media accounts: approve and monitor, train account managers on standards, and coordinate with university communications.
  • Create and disseminate internal communications such as newsletters to keep staff informed of policies and events.
  • Maintain and update physical building signage including digital displays to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Produce written and visual content for various platforms including newsletters, InfoMails, presentations, and websites.
  • Coordinate workshops by managing proposals, scheduling, website updates, and assisting presenters.
  • Oversee faculty outreach including departmental contacts, scheduling, and coordination among teams.
  • Organize orientation activities collaboratively with university departments.
  • Act as onsite liaison for events held in the Gelman Library, coordinate room bookings, and ensure compliance with event policies.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required. Candidates must have the degree conferred by the start date.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational abilities and project timeline management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience updating website content and familiarity with content management systems like Drupal.
  • Previous work experience in higher education or library settings.
  • Proficient in computer software including content management tools, Google Docs, and social media platforms.
  • Graphic design skills or willingness to learn Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Ability to train staff on website content management and conduct usability testing.

Additional Information

  • Position is based onsite at the Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 40 hours per week.
  • Regular travel may be required.
  • Background checks including criminal history, education verification, SSN trace, and sex offender registry search are mandatory.
  • The employer does not sponsor employment visa status.
  • The hiring salary range is from $22.55 to $31.03 per hour.
