Role Overview
Aldar Education is looking to appoint a capable Librarian for Bateen World Academy in Abu Dhabi on an immediate-start basis. Key Duties
- Deliver library and information-literacy sessions that help students locate and use books, magazines, and online resources independently.
- Choose and order new reading materials suited to different grade levels, student interests, and curriculum requirements.
- Work with teachers to provide topic-related resources for classroom use when needed.
- Record all library items in the automated Destiny Follett system and classify them using the Dewey system; ensure books are labelled and covered.
- Keep the library database updated with accurate student and staff records.
- Monitor overdue items, collect payment for lost or damaged books, and carry out basic repairs where required.
- Maintain a welcoming library space for quiet reading and independent study.
- Encourage reading through displays, recommendations, and awareness of new releases.
- Organise author visits and coordinate book fairs with local bookshops.
- Run the Book Club process, including collecting orders, consolidating school-wide requests, and distributing books on arrival.
- Issue and return books, and reshelve items after use.
- Respond to queries from teaching and non-teaching staff within the scope of the role.
- Follow health and safety rules, applicable legislation, and school policies.
- Support the development of library-related policies and procedures.
- Attend training relevant to the responsibilities of the post.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks aligned with the role and level of responsibility.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold either a Diploma in Library Studies / Information or a Bachelor’s degree in Library Information / Studies. The role requires 1 to 2 years of experience working as a Librarian.

- Confident spoken and written English
- Arabic language ability preferred
- Strong people skills for regular interaction with parents in a multicultural environment
- Good office administration and organisation skills
- Ability to support students’ independent learning and reading development
- Familiarity with library cataloguing and classification systems
- Attention to detail in record keeping and resource management
- Ability to coordinate events and library activities
- Professional communication with staff and students
