Role Summary

This is a full-time, on-site position in Toronto, Ontario for a Liberian Cataloguer. The role focuses on organizing library materials, assigning standardized subject headings, and preparing precise metadata records so items can be easily found and accessed. The day-to-day work includes maintaining catalog records, researching bibliographic details, checking the accuracy of information, and working with colleagues to ensure cataloguing practices remain consistent. The position also requires following accepted library science standards, addressing cataloguing challenges, and supporting improvements that strengthen library services.

Key Duties

  • Create and maintain catalog records for library materials, including print, electronic, and other resource types.
  • Apply controlled subject headings and classification practices to support accurate subject access.
  • Use the SIRSIDYNIX SYMPHONY integrated library system to catalogue resources.
  • Research bibliographic details and verify information to ensure record accuracy.
  • Keep entries organized and updated while preserving consistency across the catalogue.
  • Work with team members to resolve cataloguing issues and maintain shared standards.
  • Follow established library cataloguing conventions and contribute ideas for process improvement.

Qualifications

Applicants should bring experience in library services and library science, along with practical knowledge of professional cataloguing methods. Familiarity with Library of Congress Subject Headings is expected for dependable subject analysis and classification. Prior exposure to an integrated library system or cataloguing software is an advantage, as is understanding of standards such as MARC and RDA. A background in Library and Information Science or a closely related discipline is preferred. Strong attention to detail, solid organization, and the ability to work effectively within an on-site team are also important.

Additional Information

The role requires the ability to catalogue print, electronic, and other resources in the SIRSIDYNIX SYMPHONY integrated library system. Knowledge of cataloguing standards and tools is beneficial for success in this position.
