Job description

Job Overview

The Liaison Officer will serve as the key point of contact facilitating collaboration and communication between the Wage and Hour Division and various governmental bodies at federal, state, and local levels to ensure consistent enforcement and understanding of regulatory matters.

Key Duties

  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with officials across federal, state, and local government agencies to foster cooperation and clarity during investigations and enforcement activities.
  • Collaborate with the Solicitor's Office to obtain legal guidance related to enforcement and statutory interpretation throughout investigative and administrative processes.
  • Educate the general public and specialized audiences about the division's initiatives, enforcement actions, and overall objectives.
  • Advise and support WHD Regional Administrators and program staff alongside Department of Labor Regional Public Affairs Directors by developing information materials and coordinating strategic responses to regional matters.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of WHD programs and activities through ongoing liaison efforts with key agency personnel and external entities to implement updated functions and ensure operational success.
  • Promote federal and state cooperative enforcement efforts by providing recommendations, tracking related data, and managing information dissemination on joint projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens and at least 16 years old.
  • Candidates must obtain the required security clearances and complete a probationary period if necessary.
  • Possess 52 weeks of specialized experience comparable to the GS-13 federal grade level involving communications and knowledge of Wage and Hour laws and programs.
  • Proven experience preparing communications materials such as newsletters, speeches, briefing papers for senior government officials.
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills at conferences or large meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Experience engaging with media, including drafting responses, developing statements from leaders, and creating press releases.
  • No educational substitution is available for the specialized experience requirement at this level.
