Job description
Overview
Join one of Leicester City Council’s impressive leisure centres as a qualified lifeguard, contributing to a vibrant sports community. With seven centres featuring swimming pools, gyms, and other sports facilities across Leicester, you will support activities ranging from swimming lessons to exercise classes for all ages and abilities.
Work Schedule and Locations
The role requires flexibility to work various shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Centres generally operate from 6am to 10pm. Current full-time and part-time opportunities are available at Braunstone Leisure Centre (37 hours per week), Leicester Leys Leisure Centre (37 hours per week), Aylestone Leisure Centre (11 hours per week), and Spence Street Sports Centre offering two part-time postings (17 and 21 hours weekly with specific shift details). A female-only requirement applies to the 21-hour role at Spence Street for ladies-only pool sessions in compliance with occupational regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe operation of the leisure facilities daily.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patrons.
- Supervise pool areas to maintain safety, enforce rules, and prevent accidents or damage.
- Conduct cleaning tasks to maintain facility standards.
- Manage setup and dismantling of equipment for various activities.
- Act promptly and effectively during pool emergencies as a competent swimmer.
Requirements
- Possess a valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) at the time of appointment.
- Successfully pass a swim test and interview process.
- Demonstrate commitment and willingness to engage in further one-on-one training and support.

Salary ranges from £25,583 to £25,989 annually, with a total benefits package valued at approximately £35,438 including pension and holiday entitlements.
