Job description
About the Role
At Olea Uganda Insurance Brokers Limited, a licensed broker regulated by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) in Kampala, we are seeking a dedicated Risk and Compliance Officer. This role reports directly to the Managing Director and serves as the key driver for embedding a strong compliance culture within the company. You will coordinate compliance with regulatory requirements, enhance internal policies, and promote risk awareness throughout the organization as we continue to expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the company's operations comply with the regulatory frameworks established by the IRA, FIA, NITA, URSB, and other relevant bodies.
- Continuously review and enhance internal policies and operative procedures to reflect changing regulations.
- Examine company policies and documentation to certify alignment with applicable legal and regulatory standards.
- Oversee regulatory report submissions, tracking deadlines to guarantee timely and accurate filings.
- Develop and implement practical risk and compliance frameworks along with effective internal control measures.
- Conduct internal audits to evaluate adherence to both internal protocols and external legal requirements.
- Foster a positive compliance mindset across departments through training and engagement rather than enforcement alone.
- Identify compliance issues proactively and coordinate the creation of actionable remediation strategies.
- Participate in additional projects as determined by evolving company priorities.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a bachelor's degree in Law, Insurance, Banking, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- Have practical understanding of risk and compliance mechanisms; experience in the insurance sector is highly advantageous.
- Bring at least 24 months of relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with insurance regulations and the broader financial services industry is beneficial.
- Holding certifications in Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit, or Insurance will be an added advantage.
- Exhibit strong analytical thinking and the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively across different organizational levels.
- Demonstrate a cooperative and flexible approach, coupled with a keen eagerness to learn and improve business processes.
Why Join Olea?
As a member of our team, you will join a dynamic regional brokerage where compliance is fundamental to earning and maintaining customer trust, not just a back-office operation. You will have meaningful responsibility over the risk and compliance strategy, direct access to senior leadership, and the opportunity to shape the company’s frameworks from the ground up.
Application Instructions
Candidates interested in this opportunity should send their resume along with a brief cover letter expressing their motivation to the designated email by 30th July, 2026. Please mention "Risk and Compliance Officer" as your subject line. Final submissions are due by the stated deadline.
