About the Role

This is a full-time remote position focused on legal research for AI systems. The role centers on building and improving ways to assess how AI agents perform in legal settings, with an emphasis on reasoning quality, interpretation of law, and automating legal workflows.

Compensation for the role is listed at $350,000 to $500,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, manage, and continuously improve evaluation systems for AI agents used in legal contexts, including benchmark sets and scoring approaches.
• Carry out independent research on legal reasoning, reading statutes, and automating workflow processes.
• Build and maintain datasets, case examples, and benchmark environments that mirror practical legal problems.
• Work closely with AI researchers and engineers to test, assess, and strengthen legal-oriented models and agent-based systems.
• Review model outputs to understand performance, reasoning strength, and common breakdowns across legal scenarios.
• Document research insights and share internal guidance, findings, and best practices for evaluating legal AI.

Requirements

• Advanced legal qualification such as a JD, LLM, SJD, PhD in Law, or an equivalent credential.
• Strong subject-matter knowledge in at least one legal area, such as corporate law, contract law, or regulatory compliance.
• Proven background in legal research, legal analysis, or policy-related work.
• Experience creating structured methods to judge the quality of legal arguments or research output.
• Excellent critical thinking and strong written communication abilities.
