Job description

Role overview

Mercedes-Benz Singapore is hiring an experienced Legal Counsel to join its Regional Legal team for a 4-month temporary maternity cover assignment. The role is based in Jurong East, Singapore, and sits within a fast-paced regional environment where legal support is closely aligned with business needs.

You will be embedded within the Legal function and work alongside business leaders, the Singapore legal team, and regional legal colleagues across multiple markets. The assignment is facilitated through an agency and is intended to support business continuity, manage legal exposure, and protect the company’s interests and brand reputation.

This opportunity is suited to a commercially minded legal professional who can provide practical advice, operate confidently in an international setting, and build strong working relationships with stakeholders.

Legal partnership and advisory work

  • Act as the main legal contact for stakeholders involved in B2B and B2C products and services.
  • Develop trusted relationships with business teams and give advice that is both legally sound and commercially practical.
  • Support routine operational matters, legal consultations, and broader strategic or project-based initiatives.
  • Take part in discussions and negotiations on legal matters and documentation with business partners, public authorities, and other external parties.
  • Draft, assess, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of contracts to protect the company’s rights and reduce legal or contractual risk.
  • Handle or assist with litigation, disputes, investigations, and internal or external audits when needed.

Governance, compliance, and policy support

  • Create, update, and maintain legal templates such as contracts, terms and conditions, privacy notices, and cookie policies.
  • Track legal and regulatory changes and advise stakeholders on how they may affect the business.
  • Draft and refine internal legal policies, processes, and procedures to keep the business aligned with applicable laws, regulations, and Mercedes-Benz Group requirements.
  • Deliver legal and compliance updates, including training sessions for managers and employees.
  • Support legal reviews, audits, and compliance initiatives coordinated by Mercedes-Benz Legal Headquarters.
  • Work closely with compliance teams across the Mercedes-Benz Group.
  • Manage corporate governance matters, including statutory registers, Companies Act obligations, and coordination of corporate secretarial documents such as DRIW and minutes of meetings.
  • Advise on corporate, transactional, and commercial legal issues and help the business remain compliant through clear legal guidance.

Qualifications and professional profile

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised law school is required.
  • The candidate must be qualified and admitted to the Singapore Bar.
  • At least 5 years of legal experience is needed, gained in either an in-house legal team, preferably within a multinational company, and/or a reputable law firm.
  • Experience should include work involving data protection, privacy, corporate law, corporate governance, company secretarial matters, and financial services-related legal issues.
  • Strong legal research and drafting abilities are expected, along with sound analytical and strategic thinking.
  • The role requires confidence in drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising across a wide range of commercial contracts.
  • The lawyer should be able to simplify complex legal issues into concise, clear analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong business awareness, effective communication skills, presentation ability, and confidence in delivering training are important.
  • The role also calls for the ability to manage conflict, resolve disputes, and work with external counsel.
  • Success in the role requires multitasking skills, the ability to work under pressure, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Additional information

  • Valid Singapore work authorization is mandatory.
  • The contract duration is 4 months, it is for maternity cover, and it will not be renewed.
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
