Job Overview

We seek a business-savvy Legal Counsel to join as our second in-house attorney. This role involves working across multiple teams including sales, operations, customer success, and partnerships to establish a comprehensive legal function covering dissolution operations, commercial contracts, licensing, vendor oversight, and regulatory compliance across different U.S. jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver pragmatic legal guidance tailored to business teams such as sales, operations, engineering, marketing, and partnerships.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including licensing, vendor, and partnership agreements.
• Advise sales during customer acquisition, answering legal and regulatory queries and sometimes joining calls with prospects and clients.
• Handle customer-facing legal communications and manage issues throughout the dissolution lifecycle.
• Conduct research for market expansion into new U.S. states.
• Identify legal risks in business initiatives and propose effective mitigation strategies.
• Develop and refine internal templates, playbooks, and workflows to streamline risk management and accelerate team processes.
• Ensure compliance of marketing and customer materials with applicable laws and regulations.
• Work with outside counsel on specialized legal matters when needed.
• Undertake additional projects as company priorities evolve and grow.

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active good standing membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Between 2 and 4 years of legal experience, ideally blending law firm and in-house roles.
• Strong commercial insight to evaluate contracts and advise teams without excessive legal jargon or obstruction.
• Exceptional communication skills to clarify complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.
• Meticulous drafting capabilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Bonus but not required: experience or interest in corporate dissolution, licensing, data privacy, commercial contracting, or corporate transactions.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base salary ranging from $125,000 to $165,000 dependent on experience and location.
